MICHAEL BENNER is best known throughout
Southern California for his popular talk radio programs. Since
1977, he has hosted news and talk shows on KABC-AM,
KLOS-FM, KLSX-FM, KCBS-FM (Arrow 93.1),
and KRLA-AM. Currently he's heard every Friday afternoon
at 1:00 PM on KPFK, 90.7-FM. His KPFK talk
show was the only radio program featured in the L.A. Weekly's
"Best of 2000" issue.
In
1987 Michael left broadcasting as a full-time profession to
begin his own business, Personal Development Strategies.
With offices in Glendale, he provides consulting and training
to individuals, couples, and businesses.
As presented
by Michael, Personal
Development Strategies are custom-designed private
training sessions in stress and anger management, conflict
resolution and sensitivity, motivation, goal-setting, problem-solving,
accelerated learning, leadership, teamwork and character-building
modules. Michael also teaches classes in
Spiritual Wisdom from a non-religious, philosophical
viewpoint, and provides corporate trainings under the rubric
Corporate
Wisdom.
Michael
hosts public seminars such as: Integrated Living; Creativity,
Confidence and Courage; The Power of Self-Respect;
Integrity - Adventures in Personal Truth; Through the Looking
Glass; and Breakthrough to a New You. He has served
as the Sports Psychology Consultant for the U.S.C. Women's
Tennis team and Burbank Burroughs High School Baseball Team.
Besides
graduating from Michigan State University with a B.A. degree
in Television and Radio Management ('70), the California Community
Colleges Board of Governors has awarded Michael lifetime certification
as an Instructor of Communication Arts. He has been a member
of the Los Angeles County Board of Education's Radio Broadcast
Advisory Committee and the Pasadena City College Broadcast
Advisory Committee.
Michael
served a full six-year term as a member of the Board of Directors
for the Glendale-Crescenta Valley Chapter of the American
Red Cross. He's also a past member of the Board of Directors
of the Glendale Family YMCA, and past Chairman of the Glendale
Chamber of Commerce Disaster Preparedness Committee. He is
a federally licensed amateur radio operator, N6IJR, the founding
City Radio Officer (CRO) for the Glendale Emergency Amateur
Radio Service (GEARS), a member of the Crescenta Valley Radio
Club, and a Public Information Officer (PIO) for the Amateur
Radio Relay League (ARRL - the National Association for Amateur
Radio).
Each year
at Christmas, Michael plays Santa when GEARS members give
local kindergarden children an opportunity to speak to St.
Nick at the North Pole over amateur radio. For several years,
Michael and his wife, Doreen, were the television hosts of
the Montrose Christmas Parade. Michael was also the parade
announcer for Glendale's Days of Verdugo Parade.
Michael
has received formal accolades and awards from the United Nations
Association, the California State Senate, the Los Angeles
County Board of Supervisors, the American Red Cross, the Live
and Learn Foundation, the National Leukemia Broadcast Council,
the Glendale Family YMCA, and the Glendale Jaycees. His biography
